Roy A. Thompson
Workshop III: Care, Immigration, and Job Quality
Dr. Roy Anthony Thompson (He/Him) is a registered nurse and health services researcher born and raised in Jamaica. Dr. Thompson is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri. He is also a 2023 NIH health disparities scholar whose program of research is focused on international nurse migration, long-term care, health disparities, and health policy.
He earned his PhD at the Duke University School of Nursing and the Global Health Doctoral Certificate from the Duke Global Health Institute. His doctoral research employs both quantitative and qualitative methods to examine disparities in employment-related outcomes between Internationally Educated Nurses (FENs) and US-educated nurses, including an exploration of factors impacting IENs as they provide care in US long-term care health systems.
He is a subject matter expert on the National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing and an Emerging Diversity Leader for AcademyHealth’s Interdisciplinary Research Group on Nursing Issues (IRGNI).
